St. John of the Cross—Reflection on His Sayings of Light and Love
Jeannie Ewing - Dec 14, 2020
St. John of the Cross wrote tomes of pithy spiritual gems in both poetry and prose, containing sage advice glimmering with symbolism. In honor of his feast day, here are five of those words he imparted hundreds of years ago. They are meant to inspire and encourage the weary pilgrim even today, especially today. -
Immaculate Conception: the World’s Most Powerful Woman
Hannah Crites - Dec 8, 2020
Through Christ’s kingship, Mary is made Queen of Heaven and Earth. She is the most powerful woman in the world and beyond. This power is given to her by her son when he suffered and died on the Cross. It was not earned by war, greed, and selfishness. It was obtained through surrender, complete love, and sacrifice. It has never been done in the history of any monarch. -
Why Did the Word Become Flesh?
Mackenzie Worthing - Dec 2, 2020
May we spend this Advent season meditating more and more on the bewildering joy of the Incarnation. May we come to a fuller understanding of our need for redemption. May we come to a deeper awareness of God’s love for us and come to love him more. May we spend time in the Sacred Scripture observing Jesus and imitating him in our lives. May we not take for granted our status of divine sonship through the Sacraments. May we remember why the Word became flesh and remember to proclaim the Good... -

How to Make a More Contrite Confession
Rachel Forton - Nov 17, 2020
In our deeply flawed and hurting world, the fact that God readily and freely gives His mercy to all those willing to approach Him in repentance is simply amazing. We should not take for granted the beautiful healing God wishes to give us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The more prepared we are to receive that healing, the more God can do for us. And you just may find that the more you approach God for forgiveness, the easier it is to extend that forgiveness to the other flawed human beings... -
Why Having a Spiritual Director Is Important
Jeannie Ewing - Nov 12, 2020
Ten years ago, I’d stumbled upon a crossroads in my spiritual growth. I tried everything...Still, I felt stuck, stagnant. That’s when I knew I needed a spiritual director. A good spiritual director will not only listen to your qualms, but s/he will also leave you with important questions that you can – and should – take to prayer and confession. You will feel validated but challenged, uplifted but stirred to change. -
No Matter Who Wins the Election, Christ is Still King
Fr. Mike Liledahl - Nov 3, 2020
As important as this, or any, election may be it does not give us permission to violate the first commandment. Replacing God with the graven image of political power or political figures is a very real temptation in our society. We must remember one thing…NO MATTER WHO WINS THE ELECTION JESUS CHRIST IS THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE! -

How My Spiritual Life Has Changed Since COVID
John Kubasak - Oct 20, 2020
Daily life has not been the same since early this year. COVID has upended our churches, schools, recreation, and work. Is there an area of life it hasn’t disrupted? Sometimes forgotten on that list, but definitely needed, is our spiritual life. Here’s where the rubber meets the road in our practice of the faith. Faith is meant to be with us always, but it is even more important during times of trial. -
Praying with Proverbs
Gillian Weyant - Oct 12, 2020
Reading the Old Testament can be daunting. In this article, Gillian Weyant provides some background and helpful strategies to meditate fruitfully with the book of Proverbs and to apply the lessons to our own lives. "It is impossible to recount the true depth of meaning contained in the book of Proverbs... In the turbulent times in which we live, it is worth taking some time in silence to consider what is important in life: the pursuit of holiness, wisdom and the knowledge of God."... -
The (Often Unseen) Power of Intercessory Prayer
Sara and Justin Kraft - Oct 6, 2020
A basic tenet of our faith is that prayer is powerful. Unfortunately, and all too often, we do not live as if we believe this. I cannot count how many times I have prayed without confidence, without attention, and without expectation. It is an easy trap in which to fall. Yet, prayer of intercession offers us a beautiful opportunity to bless others and to be renewed by the grace of Jesus. -
Today’s the Feast of the Spanish Civil War Martyrs: Here’s What You Need to Know About Them
Hannah Crites - Sep 22, 2020
In the modern age, when it comes to martyrs, admittedly, my mind automatically thinks of one-off martyrdoms found in the lives of St. Maximilian Kolbe or Bl. Stanley Rother. But the reality is that we are not far from one of the most brutal persecutions and martyrdoms the Church has ever experienced. -
