Here are the Most Beautiful Images of Your Blessed Mother
Catherine Birri - May 16, 2017
Mary, the Mother of God can be thought of in many different ways. We can think of her presence in different moments in the life of Christ as written in the Bible. In addition, we can reflect on the meanings of her many titles. Each title points us to a different aspect of Mary. For example, Mary as Our Lady of Lourdes offers us a chance to focus on the Marian apparitions to St. Bernadette and the messages she gave to St. Bernadette. Artists, similarly interpret Mary in their paintings either in... -
How Can You Glorify God In Your Work?
John Kubasak - May 4, 2017
Work has been a fact of life since the dawn of the human race. Though it might seem separate from religious affairs, our daily responsibilities have ripple effects into our spiritual lives as well. Why? Simply, Jesus came to redeem the entire human person—inclusive of everything. He didn’t leave behind this or that part of human life, he redeemed all of it. Jesus is Lord of all parts of our lives: the epic, the normal, the boring, the frustrating, and everything in between.... -
How to Develop a Meaningful Devotion to the Mother of God
John Kubasak - May 2, 2017
Devotions to particular saints is a hallmark of the Catholic faith. Just as we Christians on earth pray for each other, support each other in the faith, and encourage one another toward our spiritual end, the saints can do that too from heaven. Devotion to Our Lady has many facets and comes from many sources. It’s a response to her unique, amazing role in the history of salvation. She derives all her glory from her Son (CCC 954), and His saving work is what made her what she is:... -
How To Live A Joyful Easter Season
Jeannie Ewing - Apr 18, 2017
We survived Lent. We meditated on Jesus’ Passion and Death. We sacrificed, mortified ourselves, and gave more generously. And now we have entered the time of feasting, joy, and new life of Easter. It’s almost too much to absorb, because we’ve spent over a month denying our senses and giving up a portion of our comfortable lives. Could it be that Easter really means we are supposed to end the good habits we’ve adopted during Lent? Jesus said, “Can the wedding guests... -
5 Greatest Titles of the Incredible St. Joseph
Maureen Dillon - Mar 21, 2017
This past weekend on March 19 the Church celebrated the great feast of St. Joseph. There is so much to learn about this saint and from this saint in spite of what little actual "history" we have about him. Tradition has given rise to some beautiful titles for St. Joseph that can help us get to know this saint better and begin to model ourselves after his holiness. -
Have a Meaningful Lent with these Practical Tips
Sara and Justin Kraft - Mar 2, 2017
Ash Wednesday commences the holy season of Lent in the church. Lent is a 40 day period in which we the faithful prepare for Easter and during which the “…Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert.” (CCC 540) During this time, Catholics are specifically asked to practice three spiritual activities: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. -
7 Most Beautiful Quotes on the Power of Silence
Catherine Birri - Feb 23, 2017
Few people would argue with the statement that our modern society offers little opportunity for silence. Smart phones and mobile devices keep messages, emails, streaming music and video platforms, and social media feeds available to us essentially at all times. You can't even pump gas or take a cab ride without clips of news, entertainment, and advertising before your eyes and ears. There are two realities we need to accept: first, silence is an integral part of the development of our... -

Learn 10 New Ways to Be Generous Today
Jeannie Ewing - Feb 9, 2017
Generosity is the brother of the theological virtue of charity. Recall what St. Paul says in the famous wedding verse from 1 Corinthians 13:13, “These three remain: faith, hope, and love, but the greatest of these is love.” Therefore, when we live generously, or charitably, we are exemplifying the highest virtue. Essentially, we are reflecting God Himself, who is love Incarnate. Living generously means that we live both intentionally and give abundantly. ... -
10 Amazing New Year’s Resolutions for Your Spiritual Life
Jeannie Ewing - Dec 26, 2016
I think most of us dislike New Year’s resolutions, because we know we will somehow “fail” at meeting our high expectations, and we’re usually right. Losing a certain amount of weight, working out at the gym more often, cutting out sugar, etc. are usually futile attempts at making ourselves better in some way. But what if we attached spiritual resolutions to our lives and somehow connected what we do or don’t do with a deeper meaning and purpose? ... -
How to Incorporate the Gift of Gratitude Into Your Daily Life
Anne Stricherz - Dec 14, 2016
Many years ago, I hung a homemade sign over my door that said, “Dedicate Yourselves to Gratitude.” I suppose it was my hope that I would live each day grateful for what God has given and will provide. I wanted those words—Paul’s Letter to the Colossians—to serve as a motto for my life. I also knew I needed a reminder! Catholic Relief Services tells us “Gratitude is a gift from God. It gives us a way to respond to the Creator. With it, God gives us a way to... -
Boost Your Advent Season With These Daily Reflections
John Kubasak - Nov 28, 2016
In her great wisdom, the Church sets before us times of preparation for the two most important feasts of the year: Christmas and Easter. We should prepare for the coming of the Lord into our hearts every day, but our senses can get dulled. Great feasts catch our attention and are worthy of our celebration! The hour is now, St. Paul tells the Romans—not tomorrow. Jesus comes to us today, not in a distant time when we think we’ll be ready for Him. For any... -
How to Prepare for the Beautiful Season of Advent
Jeannie Ewing - Nov 21, 2016
Though Advent bears the dawn of a new liturgical season every year, most of us dismiss it as a period of celebrating Christmas before Christmas arrives. We adorn our homes with Christmas lights, decorated trees, tinsel and holly, festive tunes, and the like. All the while, the intent of Advent – a season of waiting, of silent but joyful expectation – falls by the wayside or perhaps into the din of our premature festivities. The world does not like to wait, and we are not... -
Living out the Final Weeks in the Year of Mercy
John Kubasak - Nov 9, 2016
The end of the liturgical year is fast approaching, as is the end of the Year of Mercy. With the holiday season coming up, the last weeks of the Year of Mercy will fly by even faster. Special years carry great graces along with them—we need to take advantage of these opportunities! When Pope Francis decreed this liturgical year (12/8/15 through 11/20/16) to be the Year of Mercy, he called on everyone to practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, called confessors... -
What is the Miracle of God’s Mercy Really?
Charles Kaupke - Nov 8, 2016
Pope Francis has said that mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel.” As we near the end of the Year of Mercy, now is an ideal time for us to step back and reflect on what mercy is. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments God is constantly displaying mercy, first to the Israelites, and then to all of humanity through Jesus. How does Scripture present mercy? What exactly is it? We can gain a clearer understanding of what mercy is through examining a series of five instances of God...
